Short answer: Arrive at least two days before your surgeon consultation and pre-op tests. A flight from North America takes 11 to 15 hours, and Seoul is 13 to 17 hours ahead of you, so day one is for landing and day two for adjusting. Surgery usually falls on day three or four.

The flight is the part of the trip people plan last and the part that most often pushes a surgery date. Here's how to build the first days so the operation happens on schedule.

How long is the flight from North America to Seoul?

About 11 to 15 hours nonstop into Incheon.

FromApprox. nonstop flight timeTime difference to Seoul
Vancouver11 hours+16 hours (summer), +17 (winter)
Los Angeles or San Francisco12.5–13 hours+16 hours (summer), +17 (winter)
Toronto13.5–14 hours+13 hours (summer), +14 (winter)
New York14–15 hours+13 hours (summer), +14 (winter)

Korea doesn't use daylight saving time, which is why the gap changes by an hour across the year.

Why shouldn't surgery be the day after you land?

Because your blood work, blood pressure and fluid balance should be measured in a normal state, not after 14 hours in a cabin. Long flights also raise the risk of blood clots, and adding anesthesia on top isn't something surgeons want to rush.

Jet lag matters too. You'll be signing a consent form and agreeing to implant sizes or incision lines. That's a conversation to have rested.

What should the first days look like?

  1. Day 1. Land at Incheon. Get to the hotel, eat, walk, sleep at local time.
  2. Day 2. Adjust. A light day outside. If you're also having a checkup, fasting starts tonight.
  3. Day 3. Checkup or consultation. Meet the surgeon face to face, pre-op tests, final plan.
  4. Day 4. Surgery, if the surgeon agrees with the plan.

If a checkup is part of the trip, it goes before the surgeon consultation. Its blood work often covers most pre-op tests.

When can you fly home after surgery?

When the surgeon clears you, not before. That's typically 7 to 10 days for breast surgery and 12 to 14 for a facelift. Our recovery timeline guide covers each procedure.

For the flight home, ask about compression stockings, walking the aisle, and staying hydrated. The return flight is the long one for clot risk, and you'll be fresh out of surgery.

How do we handle arrival?

We meet you at the arrivals hall, drive you to a hotel near your clinic, and plan the days so nothing medical happens on day one.

  • Airport pickup and drop-off, about 60 to 90 minutes each way to Gangnam.
  • A buffer day built in, so jet lag doesn't decide your surgery date.
  • The checkup, consultation and surgery in the right order, across different hospitals if needed. See where Seoul's clinics are.
