Can You Get Dental Crowns in Korea in One Week?
Yes, for most crowns. How a one-week crown trip to Seoul runs, why clinics with an in-house lab finish faster, what a root canal does to the schedule, and what Korean patients pay for zirconia, porcelain and gold crowns.
Short answer: Usually yes. A clinic that sends crowns to an outside lab needs about 4 to 7 days between preparing the tooth and fitting the crown. One with its own lab and milling machine can finish the same day or the next morning. A root canal, or a crown on an implant that hasn't healed yet, is what breaks the one-week plan.
Crowns are the easy part of dental travel. No bone has to heal. Most of the wait is a lab making the tooth.
How does a one-week crown trip actually run?
Two main appointments, with a few days between. Here's a typical shape for an outside-lab clinic:
- Day 1 or 2: exam and X-rays. The tooth is shaped (치아 삭제, "tooth reduction"), scanned, and covered with a temporary crown.
- Days 3 to 5: nothing. The lab makes the crown.
- Day 5 or 6: try-in. The dentist checks fit, color and bite, then cements it.
Leave a spare day before your flight. A crown sent back to the lab for a color or fit adjustment costs a day or two.
What's the difference with an in-house lab?
Speed. Korean clinics advertise 원내 기공실, an in-house lab, as a selling point for exactly this reason.
A dentist in Ilsan described the setup to the Korean paper Local Naeil. An intraoral scanner replaces the rubber impression, the file goes straight to a CAD/CAM design station in the building, and a milling machine cuts the crown. The old route took 4 days to a week. Under the new one, a patient who comes in the morning is done that afternoon, and an afternoon patient finishes the next morning.
When you get a quote, ask whether the clinic mills on site, and whether that covers the material you're getting.
Does a root canal change the schedule?
Yes, by a few days to a couple of weeks. The tooth gets a temporary filling and has to settle before the crown goes on.
A Korean endodontist answering on the community site WorkingUS put it this way: a mild case gets 2 to 3 days of healing, while a retreatment or bad infection may be watched for 1 to 2 weeks. Most dentists, the answer added, want the crown on within about a month.
If your dentist at home has already said "root canal, then crown," tell the Korean clinic up front.
What do crowns cost in Korea?
Korean price guides put zirconia (지르코니아) at about ₩500,000 to ₩800,000 a tooth, or $360 to $570. These figures are from the Korean finance site Banksalad, updated November 2025, using 2024 data.
| Material | Typical Korean price |
|---|---|
| Zirconia | ₩500,000–800,000 ($360–570) |
| All-ceramic | ₩500,000–700,000 ($360–500) |
| Gold | ₩450,000–600,000 ($320–430) |
| Porcelain on metal (PFM) | ₩400,000–500,000 ($290–360) |
Front teeth often cost more, because clinics use a more translucent, layered zirconia. Crowns aren't covered by Korean insurance for visitors, and they're VAT-exempt as treatment. Cosmetic work like laminates is taxed.
What about a crown on an implant?
That's a different clock. The implant has to fuse with the bone first, usually 3 months or more, so the crown comes on a second trip. See how many trips implants take.
Can you fit other things into the same week?
Often. A cleaning fits on day 1. A health checkup fits in one of the empty lab days, as long as it isn't the day your mouth is still numb.
