Can You Do Breast Augmentation and a Health Checkup on the Same Trip?
Yes, if the checkup goes first. How the checkup's blood work, ECG and breast imaging overlap with pre-op tests, why the breast scans should come before surgery, and a 13-day sample schedule.
Short answer: Yes. Book the checkup on day 1 or 2 after landing and surgery a day or two later, never the other way round. Plan on about 13 days in Seoul: two before surgery and 8 to 10 after, which is what breast augmentation needs anyway.
The checkup adds one morning. The order is the whole trick.
Which should come first, the checkup or the surgery?
The checkup, for three reasons.
It needs fasting and often sedation for the endoscopy, which you don't want to stack on top of general anesthesia a few days later. Its results can change the surgery plan. And after surgery you'll be sore, bandaged and in a compression bra, which is a bad state for a CT table or a breast exam.
A checkup on day 5 after surgery can look like a good use of a quiet day. It isn't.
Does the checkup replace the pre-op tests?
Partly. Korean clinics run a standard set before breast surgery. A Gangnam clinic, UNE Plastic Surgery, lists blood work, clotting tests, liver and kidney function, infection screening, an ECG and a chest X-ray, with breast ultrasound or a pregnancy test added when needed.
A comprehensive checkup covers most of that and more. Whether the surgical clinic will use another hospital's results isn't standard, and the blood work and ECG are quick to repeat if it won't.
Ask the clinic before you book, and bring the results either way. UNE's checklist tells patients to bring any recent breast screening to the consultation.
Why should breast imaging happen before the implants?
Because it's the last time the breast can be scanned without them. A mammogram and breast ultrasound before surgery give a clean baseline that radiologists can compare against for years.
After augmentation, a mammogram needs extra displacement views to see past the implant, and early swelling makes any scan harder to read. See mammograms with implants.
A finding on the checkup ultrasound, even a harmless-looking cyst, is something the surgeon wants to know before placing an implant. Most get noted and left alone. Some need a follow-up test first, and that's a conversation better had before the operating day.
What does a combined trip look like?
Here's a schedule we'd use for a primary augmentation with an under-breast incision.
| Day | What happens |
|---|---|
| 0 | Land at Incheon, hotel. Fast from evening. |
| 1 | Comprehensive checkup, about half a day. Early results with the doctor. |
| 2 | Surgical consultation, pre-op tests the clinic still wants |
| 3 | Surgery |
| 4 to 6 | Follow-up, drain out if one was placed |
| 7 to 10 | Rest. Full checkup report arrives by email. |
| 11 or 12 | Stitch removal, clearance to fly |
| 13 | Fly home |
Day 1 can be a single afternoon. One of our patients did ultrasound, X-ray, CT, blood work and a sedated endoscopy in 2 hours 18 minutes. Larger hospital packages take most of a day.
The post-surgery half follows our flying-home timeline. An armpit incision closed with glue can move the flight earlier.
Is there anything you shouldn't combine?
A colonoscopy, if you can avoid it. The prep means a day of liquids and bowel prep right before surgery. If you want one, put it first with a spare day before the operation, or save it for another visit.
Smoking is the other issue, and it starts before you fly. UNE's checklist asks patients to stop four weeks before surgery and four weeks after, e-cigarettes included.

Frequently asked questions
Should the health checkup be before or after breast augmentation?
Before, usually a day or two ahead. It involves fasting and often sedation, and its results can change the surgery plan.
Will the plastic surgery clinic accept my checkup results?
It varies by clinic. Ask before booking and bring the printed results; the blood work and ECG are quick to repeat if needed.
Why get a mammogram before breast augmentation?
It gives a baseline without implants. Afterward, mammograms need extra views and early swelling makes scans harder to read.
How long is a combined checkup and breast augmentation trip?
About 13 days: one or two days before surgery for the checkup and consultation, and 8 to 10 days after surgery.
Can I have a colonoscopy on the same trip?
It's possible but awkward, because bowel prep falls right before surgery. Schedule it first with a spare day, or on a separate trip.

Yes. Korean clinics remove implants alone, with part of the capsule, or with the whole capsule, and en bloc is one form of the last. When a Seoul surgeon will say the capsule should come out, when they'll call it overtreatment, and what removal costs on Korean apps in 2026.
